Smart Tools is an app that helps the automotive technicians, managers and shop owners to connect with their Snap-on Torque Wrenches. The app displays and logs results received from the wrench and allows to read and edit torque presets defined on the wrench.
The goal was to create a simplified UI for the app that allowed easier pairing with the Snap-on tools.
This would increase the user’s productivity by being faster to extract data and document work.
UI & UX Design
iOS & Android
Before re-creating the visual user interface it was important to look closely at the current app and identify usability issues and other problems that could be resolved and consequently improve the user experience.
User flows show us the complete path taken by an user to complete a task across the whole application. It also helps us visualize the flow through the pages, detect existing pain points and finally resolve them.
After tweaking the information arhitecture by organizing and structuring the content in an effective way, the next step was to connect the site’s information architecture to its visual design by showing paths between pages.
While working on this project, there where some key principles that I applied to this app redesign: create a modern and minimalist design with an easy to learn interface and apply a better use of common design patterns while keeping the identity of the Snap-on brand. All these key principles were important in building a better product for the business and customers.
